Happy Monday, everyone! I'm back with a vengeance! As you guys may have seen, I've been a bit MIA from the blogging world, but now that the first week of school is out of the way, I think I can get backt o some sorta of normality in the blogging world. I've got tons on my to-do list for the week, including my Me, Myself and I post from this month so you guys can get to know me better!
But let's get on with the motivation! Have you ever had someone tell you they were dreaming of success? Or, better yet, have you ever had someone say something like, "you're so lucky" to you about your success? Well, next time you hear that, just quote Estee Lauder!

I absolutely love this quote! I think it's perfect! The word success is so loaded, but you have to work for it. I'll diverge for one moment and tell you all a story. It's slightly political, so if I lose any fans over this, I apologize in advance.
A while back, I was having an argument over facebook (yea, it was that faceless) with a friend of a friend. My friend had stated something about how it's not fair how much the middle class got taxed and I chimed in saying that I was not happy that Romney pays less taxes than I do while trying to make a decent life for myself off of less than 20k. This guy proceeded to tell me that Romney didn't pay more taxes than me and then told me that I shouldn't be jealous of others' success and that I should work harder to be successful. Well, needless to say, I'm not one to let something like that go. I pulled out the grad school card. You can bet telling him that I'd be receiving my PhD from an Ivy league school in about six years shut him up.
Where am I going with this? Everyone defines success differently, so think before you tell someone they're not successful.
How do you define success in your life? Are you feeling successful?

For me, success doesn't even have anything to do with money. I mean, some people are doing things that make them happy and making no money from it.
ReplyDeleteI figure as long as I'm happy and I have good friends and family and I'm not living in a cardboard box then I'm happy. And that makes me feel successful.
And don't even get me started on Romney...
This is such an awesome post! I posted up some motivation on Lattes and Love today, too. I completely agree with that quote. You can dream as big as you want, and please, do, but I am amazed at how many people don't realize that with those dreams comes a LOT of work to make them a reality.
ReplyDeleteOh and I don't think you'll lose too many fans on the Romney comment. He's pretty out of touch and I think that's pretty obvious. But maybe that's just me XD
I think success is definitely more of a state of mind, especially as each of us have different goals in life. Having a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in your own life can prove to be the greatest success.
ReplyDeleteJust keep working for your dreams. Happy Monday.
Great post Ali, I measure success with happiness. If I'm not happy.... it doesn't matter how successful I am... nothing to enjoy:)
ReplyDeleteSuccess IS a loaded word! It means something different to each and every person. Also, I think it also comes from how you are raised. Some define it by money, how many "things" they won, how many friends they have...blah blah blah...bottom line...You have to be happy in your life! It goes by too fast to worry about all the stupid stuff in life! If you are happy, have a roof over your head, clothing and someone to love...in the end...you ARE a success!
ReplyDeleteLove the blog!
